Британська кухня / British cuisine
Твір на тему: Британська кухня на англійській мові
Just as the majority of humanity, British people start their day with breakfast. Core courses for every country in Great Britain are bacon, eggs, sausages and some sort of bread. However, while in England a typical breakfast usually includes baked beans and tinned tomatoes, in Scotland people usually substitute them with pancakes. Also, in Northern Ireland it’s more natural to eat breakfast with pudding.
A main meal of the day for British people is a dinner, of course. I have found an information that potatoes are the major preference of British people to other vegetables. Nevertheless, vegetables are often accompanied by stewed lamb.
As afternoon tea occurs in the afternoon, it is more similar to a lunch. The essential part of the afternoon tea is, logically, tea. The majority of British people have a cup of tea with sandwiches, which are cut into finger sandwich. Still, it isn’t rare to see someone in United Kingdom drinking a cup of tea with a scone or a cake.
High tea is a sort of bridge between breakfast and dinner as well as afternoon dinner. However, because of its history, this meal usually involves a mug of tea and bread, which is mixed with vegetables and cheese. Occasionally people add meat to this meal.
Afternoon tea appeared earlier than high tea. It was firstly introduced in eighteen forties. At that time, this meal was also known as the ‘tea reception’. At the beginning, it developed as a private social occasion for ladies of high social status.
On the other hand, the development of high tea took place in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as a necessary meal for regular workers, because when they returned to their homes, they were extremely hungry. Possible explanation why this meal has a name “High tea” is because it was eaten at the table, in contrast with the Afternoon tea which was taken while sitting in low chairs.
